This grand, privately owned establishment on the Promenade des Anglais is difficult to miss with its Belle Epoch fa?ade and prominent pink dome. The Negresco Hotel does not do understated. Built in 1912 it wears its elaborate, slightly eccentric take on Versailles-inspired d?cor with pride ? this is indeed part of the Negresco?s identity. Rooms facing the sea and promenade are obviously better because of the views, but even courtyard rooms are lavishly adorned with period d?cor. The impact of the superlative common spaces defies description; suffice to say that the combination of modern art, neo-renaissance extravagance and Art Deco style will leave a lasting impression on even the most jaded guest. Position is also a plus ? a ten-minute walk from the Old Town and the beach is just over the road.
