We are a Coorgi family who have recently created a nature retreat deep in the heart of the Western Ghats mountains, 12 km from Madikeri. We offer affordable accommodation in high quality rain-proof, comfortable tents (there is a 1 inch foam mattress and full bedding), all with a personal table and chairs. We are family friendly, and will soon develop some play areas for children.
It is really quiet down here, there are no major roads nearby, and we are surrounded by nature, there is a constant mountain stream we use for water, and the air is always super fresh (Madikeri is well known for its air quality). This is partly why we’ve called it ‘Abbidhare Breeze’ — there’s usually a nice fresh breeze blowing through. Almost always, there’s birdsong, frog chorus, and occasional monkey calls and the odd sight of one (not the macaques, we should add). It is a relatively tame jungle, though, with no dangerous snakes, insects, or wild animals.
There are two river spots for bathing and swimming, within a 2 minute walk, from which you can swim in shallow water, past our site if you wish, and in 10 minutes there is a larger deeper swimming spot by Gravity Waterfalls (we do not advise this in the monsoon, though). There are also many longer walks along paths, tracks and minor roads, some offering views of nearby mountain tops. We also have a jeep and can offer tours of the surrounding countryside and mountains, or cultural trips into nearby towns and villages.
We would also be happily to show you around our small coffee plantation and vegetable patches, and you will be welcome to purchase some of our home-grown produce, including ginger, pepper, bananas (the small ones), and, of course, our coffee beans. And if you’d like to learn about our culture — past and present — and about our local wildlife, we will be very happy to spend some time with you.
If you would like homemade traditional Coorgi food, we can provide up to three meals each day, to eat here or you can take food away somewhere. Meals we can offer:
eggs from our fresh range chickens (boiled, fried, omelete, egg burji)
rice roti and sambar
pure raggi balls (with no other flours added)
seasonal fruit and vegetables from our land
And of course with coffee or chai, made to your liking (with sugar or jaggery).
Facilities
We now have comfortable facilities available, such as:
good quality rain-proof tents, all with mattress, bedding, and personal picnic table and chairs
Enclosed toilet/wet room, with hot and cold running water
communal fire-pit, with benches and dry wood provided
There is no Internet but we can hotspot you for limited uses
A shelter, should it rain, with patio
We can also offer help with laundry
off-road parking

Please note that any changes in tax structure due to government policies will result in revised taxes, which will be applicable to all reservations and will be charged additionally during check out.
