Riverside Eco Retreat nr. Karjat is a farm house situated in a hundred acre estate, which you are welcome to explore.In line with the objectives of Modak Van Society, you can learn first hand about nature and see rainwater harvesting and solar power in action.Look out for the notes and guide books on birds, trees and flowers. We can comfortably accommodate six to eight adults in two bedrooms and can sleep ten at a push. Larger groups would have to sleep on two charpois or even the floor and we prefer to avoid that.Children under ten years of age would need to be supervised.Water is drawn from the borewell, run through an ozonation process and is very drinkable. We have it tested once a year.The house runs on solar power, so you should not suffer electricity outages. During the monsoons we may be more reliant on the grid.We have A/Cs in the bedrooms, which run on the grid, but we rarely need to use them because the house was designed for natural cooling. Because of the irregular electricity supply, A/C cannot always be guaranteed, so if that would spoil your visit, Sohana may not be for you… During the monsoons and winter we remove the air vent covers and switch the A/C off.The courtyard water tank is filtered and kept bacteria-free by ozonation, meaning we use very little chlorine and can use the water for irrigation of the trees and plants. You will usually find some natural sediment on the bottom and some insects floating on the surface, but it is great for swimming and our help will remove anything that worries you.The river Pej borders the orchard and has a path to help you explore its banks and rapids.
