A little less hectic than Kuta, not as trendy as Seminyak. If you want to be in the main tourist destinations of Bali, and have shops, markets, food options and the beach at your doorstep then it’s for you. If you came to Bali to see beautiful beaches or rice fields, then you’re probably best looking into Ubud, Jimbaran, Uluwatu or the North or East coast of Bali, either as an alternative or combining it with Legian.
