Recommended for bird enthusiasts! This year, ruddy kingfishers can be spotted frequently from around mid-May to June.

From Shonai Airport: about 30 min by taxi at around JPY 5,000 (as of July 2008).
From Tsuruoka Station (JR Uetsu Line): about 30 min by taxi. Alternatively, transfer to the local service train and alight at Fujishima Station. About 10 min by taxi from there.
By car: about 20 min from Yamagata Expressway Asahi IC.
Pick-up service available at the nearest stations (Fujishima Station on the Uetsu Main Line, or Karikawa Station on the Rikuu West Line). Reservations are required in advance. Please note that the service may be unavailable during busy seasons.
