The name Dobong-gu originated from Dobongsan Mountain. Dobongsan Mountain is a peak of the Gwangju Mountain Range that extends from the Taebaek Mountain Range. The entire mountain, including Seoninbong Peak, Jaunbong Peak, Manjangbong Peak, Sinseonbong Peak, and Obong Peak, is made of huge granite. On a clear day, the white color emitted by the granite wall, the pointed green mountain peaks, and the blue sky form a superb view. It has long been called the "Geumgang River of Seoul" because it seems to have made Geumgangsan Mountain.
The highest peak of Dobongsan Mountain is Jaunbong Peak, which is 739.5m above sea level. When you climb Jaunbong Peak, you can see Manjangbong Peak, Obong Ridge, Kalbawi Rock, Podaebong Peak, and Uiam Rock at a glance, and you can see Bukhansan Mountain in the distance. Currently, Jaunbong Peak is designated as a no-hiking zone, so climbing is only possible up to Sinseondae, right next to Jaunbong Peak. The beautiful valleys spread between the peaks such as Munsadong Valley, Wondobong Valley, Musugol Valley, and Obong Valley add beauty to Dobongsan Mountain.
Dobong-gu holds a festival every September around the beautiful Dobongsan Mountain. A poster contest will be held to commemorate the festival for elementary and middle school students. Residents perform on stage themselves. There are also plenty of additional events such as the Dobongsan Music Concert and Sansa Music Concert at the entrance of Dobongsan Mountain, as well as hiking competitions, hiking clothes fashion shows, flag painting calligraphy exhibitions, photo exhibitions, and experience programs. The Dobongsan Festival, which began in 2007, has now firmly established itself as a local cultural festival representing Dobong-gu.
How to use the subway and bus
- Get off at Ssangmun Station on Line 4 -
1. After moving 70M from Exit 2 (1 minute), take the green bus 1126 in front of the subway and get off at the Dokkaebi Market stop (15 minutes), and on foot 360M (5 minutes)
2. Go to the central bus stop, board the blue bus 106,107,140,142,150,160 and walk 700M (10 minutes) from the Dobong Fire Station and Banghak Nambu Station stops

1. 800M on foot (12 minutes)
