"Eagles Nest Villa" is firmly lodged on the verdant mountain of 'Buona Vista", overlooking the entire bay of Galle. The whole city of Galle is visible in just one glance. Ships streaming in front of the harbor, the revolving beam of the light house and the dazzling city lights in the night add to the glamour. The surrounding jungle is a forest reserve teeming with animal and bird life. Is has the brown and black monkeys, hare, mongoose,deer to name a few animals. Peacocks, eagles, birds of many varieties including flocks of mynah and white breasted robins abound in the vicinity.
The first contact of the westerners to SL was made at the bay of Buona Vista in 1505 A.D by the Portuguese. After the British captured the maritime province in 1796, they had Galle as their chief port of call. These ships obtained their supply of water from a pool they dug abutting the sea shore. A part of this pool is yet can be seen.
During the 2nd world war the Australian and American troops commandeered Buona Vista due to its strategic location in guarding the city from the possible Japanese invasion. The long canon sites in the wartime infrastructure are yet in existence - In fact the villa is built on a American base foundation
