Keady Cottage - 30 metres from the beach and ocean - Siquijor Island Description

Located on the west coast of Siquijor Island Keady Cottage is 30m from the ocean and sits in a lush tropical garden. The cottage is constructed of beautiful local wood-(Acacia) with an outdoor shower and deck overlooking the overgrown and lush garden. Keady is ideal to relax and regenerate. The ocean 30m away is a garden of live corals; at low tide a rocky platform is exposed where locals search for shellfish in the traditional way. There are no hawkers or children trying to sell you trinkets!
Keady is a native design and constructed out of local wood and Nipa products throughout. It is positioned facing west to afford the best opportunity for shade by reducing direct sunlight. However the bedroom area is very light as the sliding door from the western facing deck lets in ample light and also allows the breeze from the ocean to flow into the room. The hot/cold shower area is straight out of a designer handbook (well Pinterest actually!) complete with a living banana tree or two for shade! Due to the shower being outside it may give the appearance of not being cleaned but it is! leaves from the passion fruit bushes and banana plants shed leaves all the time! If you want it 'freshened' up please ask!
A colourful bamboo archway path leads directly to the ocean from the accommodation
Bed linen, towels and soaps are provided. Sheets are changed every 3 days. The cottage is tidied everyday but not cleaned every day, only every 3rd day. If you require a towel change before 3 days there will be a 50 pesos charge per towel. Pls place the towel on the floor in the shower and inform us on agoda of your request.
If something is not to your liking please inform the manager at Baha Bar. We can arrange for washing of clothes and babysitting if required.
For both of these services there is a cost of 100 pesos per kilo for clothes washing and 100 pesos per hour for babysitting.
Babysitting must be arranged ahead of time pls!
Warning - At low tide the foreshore is rocky and you may feel it is not ideal for young children, however you may also consider it fascinating for them! A fully sandy beach is just 100m away along the shoreline
Transport - we have our own minibus and can provide transport to and from the ferries provided you give us at 12 hours notice (we can accept requests in a shorter time frame but cannot guarantee we will pick up the message!).
Cost - 700 pesos each way from Siquijor and 1000 pesos from Larena port.
Please check in at the Baha Bar restaurant, the keys are left with the cashier upstairs from 8.30am to 11 pm. Access to Keady is from Baha Bar restaurant (#1 on the island according to Trip Advisor), walk underneath the nipa sakayan (local fishing kyak) through the gardens in the back of the restaurant towards the ocean and the cottage is on your right 25m from the restaurant. The footpath corridor (underneath flourishing and fruit bearing passion fruit ) also leads to the seafront 30m from Keady cottage.
The owners, Steve and Gen live next door and can be contacted at any time if there is a concern or emergency but any of the staff at Baha Ba’r are on hand until 11pm to assist you.
Although Keady is not on the ocean, the cottage is very close (150m) to what locals refer to as 'ghost island’. The locals believe that once you die your soul is transported to this island before you go to the next life! The water is crystal clear and although the beach area is narrow it is generally very clean and free of garbage.
The main features outside the lush gardens are the clarity of the water on your doorstep and the unimpeded views at sunset to Apo Island and amazing stars almost every night. The corals are 20m offshore and are all healthy and living, unfortunately the local fisherman over fish them but nevertheless you will still see many small fish and other macro fauna. It is within relatively easy reach of other restaurants and bars on the island (need own motorbike or take tricycle).
The beach is clean and is kept clean by one of the staff from Baha Bar. The width of the beach is only 15m to the sea but it stretches for over 1.5km to San Juan town. It is not a classic white ‘Boracay-like' beach but in my opinion because it is not all sand there is much more to see than a fauna-less sand-only beach; but I understand that is not everyone’s view! At low tide there is a rocky platform which stretches for 50m offshore and is a haven for sea urchins and starfish etc. Only 100m offshore are over 600 healthy coral species with associated fish and only 150m from the Maite marine sanctuary.
The Baha Bar restaurant and bar is only 30m away and is open 8.30-11pm every day and has great food ranging from Filipino favourites to western style cuisine.
We can suggest methods to get around but most people elect to use motorbikes of which we have a couple for hire (350p a day). We also have pedal bikes (150 per day) and a ‘traditional styled' jeepney car for rent (2000p per day not including the driver)
We can arrange transportation to and from the port depending on type of vehicle and time of day. Advanced warning is required pls.
Directions to Siquijor - Siquijor Island is approximately 45 mins - 1.5 hours by ferry from either Dumaguete or Tagbilaran (Bohol). The best flight connections to Dumaguete are from Manila (Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific - 4 flights a day, 1 hour flight time). From Cebu there is currently one ferry a day (5 hours) and 3 flights a week to Dumaguete (20 mins). There are also bus and ferry combination connections to Cebu from Dumaguete (approx 4-5 hours journey)
Keady has hot water showers (2 side by side) but on rare occasions the local water supply pressure is not sufficient to trip the hot water tank but usually this only lasts a couple of hours. Also we also suffer power cuts from time to time but Keady has its own generator which will be turned on by one of the staff (even at 2AM!) to ensure the continuation of power.
We have Motor bike (scooter), mountain bike and stand up paddle board and jeepney rental (2000 p day not including driver).
We also have a dive boat and dive instructor / guide who could take you diving in one of the numerous dive spots close to Keady Cottage.
We also offer an exhilarating mountain bike experience where we drop you at the top of the highest point on the island and you wind your way to Baha Bar on footpaths and backroads seeing a real up close cross section of Siquidonian life (the people in the mountains were so remote that even to this day they speak with a different accent). It is guided tour and you need to be medium level mountain bike capability, the equipment is virtually new (mainly Norco and Giant bikes with 26-27” wheels). The journey takes 2-3 hours depending on ability.
Please note that all construction next door has now been completed and we have upgraded the shower in the outdoor bathroom.
There maybe some minimal background noise from the live music playing at Baha Bar (5-6 nights a week 6.30pm - 9.30pm unless there is a special occasion). Baha Bar is famed as ‘the place to be’ on the island in a laid back, no 'hustle and bustle' kind of cool place to spend a rainy day or meet with friends. Keady is a short walking distance from Baha Bar but is far enough away to enjoy solitude and silence during the day.
We have the best Wifi on the island but I have noted that some guests have expressed some frustration with the speed. Unfortunately the connection is not North American or Chinese standard yet so you have to forgive us on some occasions if it is too slow. To try and combat this understandable annoyance we have run dedicated cable to the bar and 2 extra routers.
Although Siquijor is almost crime free and is one of the safest places, not only in Philippines but in SE Asia we still have a security guard who patrols around at night for the comfort of guests. As with all countries these days pls check travel advisories before travel.
Please no smoking inside the house or on the deck (please go in the Baha Bar entranceway). We will charge 1,000 pesos if there is evidence of smoking inside the house or on the deck (it is unfortunate we have to enforce this rule but we have had too many guests not respecting the property and often the succeeding guest has to wait hours for us to clean up!)
Also in case of a typhoon and you cant reach the island we will refund you 50% of the rental cost per day (for the days the ferries do not run)", "remark": []}
